Panting, Daniel squeezed himself into the dark closet, pressing his back against the wooden panels.

"You can't run forever. You think you can hide from me?" the voice sneered.

"Please, not tonight," Daniel whispered.

A mocking chuckle. "Not tonight? You think you have a say?"

A slap cracked through the silence. His head snapped sideways.

"Pathetic. You disgust me," the voice hissed.

"Please… stop," he whispered, wrapping his arms around himself.

 "Weak. Pathetic. Always begging."

"I-I just want peace," Daniel stammered.

"Peace?" The voice laughed coldly. "You don't deserve it. You mess up everything. I have to fix it. I have to fix you."

A sharp slap echoed once again. He gasped. "No more, please!"

Another punch. "Shut up!"

Daniel whimpered, curling into himself. A knock on the door startled him.

"Daniel?" His mother’s voice trembled. "Are you hurting yourself again?"

He froze. The closet light flickered, revealing only him— one man, two-minds, and a war within. His mom understood that his split personality condition is worsening.
