Love Padlock - I miss you, my love

Short Story - ā€œI Miss Youā€Ā is a late-night WhatsApp chat between two lovers separated by distance, fear, and the weight of a world that doesn’t fully accept them. The ending will leave you speechless and maybe a little heartbroken.

12:47 AM

"I miss you."

"You literally dropped me home 20 minutes ago šŸ˜…"

"Yeah, and that’s 20 minutes too long."

"God, you’re dramatic."

"I am. And, you love that about me."

"You’re impossible."

"And you still fell for me. That’s your fault."

"Worst decision of my life."

"Liar. You smiled when you typed that."

"…shut up."

"Remember that old lady at the cafƩ today?"

"The one who said we look like too sophisticated friends? šŸ˜‚"

"Yeah. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry."

"Same. It’s funny, but it’s not, you know?"

"Yeah. Like the world keeps giving us nicknames just to avoid saying ā€œlovers.ā€ "

"You think it’ll ever change?"

"Maybe. But I don’t want to wait till I’m fifty to hold your hand in daylight."

"Fifty? I’ll be bald by then."

"You’ll still be hot."

(typing... typing again...)

"What if we just left?"

"Left?"

"Yeah. Gone somewhere no one knows us. Spain. Maybe Canada."

"You can’t even cook rice properly, and you want to move countries."

"I’ll learn. For you."

"I would miss my mom."

"You can video call her every day. I will even remind you."

"She’ll ask who’s in the background."

"Tell her it’s your flatmate šŸ˜‚"

"Sometimes I wish the world wasn’t so loud."

"Me too. I just want to wake up one morning and not have to lie."

"You don’t lie. You just... hide."

"What’s the difference?"

(a few minutes of silence)

"You know, tonight when you dropped me home... I almost kissed you."

"Why didn’t you?"

"The neighbor was standing in the balcony."

"So what?"

"So what? You know what happens if someone sees."

"Yeah. We become the headline. ā€œCaught kissing in parking lot.ā€"

"Exactly."

"You ever think about what we’ll do if my parents find out?"

"Yeah. Every damn day."

"I don’t want to lose them."

"And I don’t want to lose you."

"Maybe we can’t have both."

"Then I choose you."

"Don’t say that."

"I mean it. I’d rather build something small and honest with you than live big in someone else’s lie."

(a pause)

"You really think we could make it work there?"

"In Spain?"

"Anywhere."

"If there’s good coffee and you beside me, yes."

"That’s the cheesiest thing you’ve ever said."

"I learned from you."

(a minute passes)

"Hey?"

"Yeah?"

"If we do run away… promise me something?"

"Anything."

"No hiding. No fake names. No pretending to be ā€œfriends.ā€"

"Deal. Just us — and maybe a cat."

"What will we name him?"

"ā€œFreedom.ā€"

"Too dramatic."

"Then ā€œToast.ā€"

"That’s perfect. Burnt on the outside, soft inside. Just like you."

"šŸ˜…"

(typing... deleting... typing again...)

"I don’t know how long I can keep pretending, love."

"Then stop pretending here. Be real here."

"I am. You’re the only real thing I have."

(long pause)

"It’s 2:42 AM. I should sleep. Big meeting tomorrow."

"I’ll miss you."

"You always do."

"Yeah. But this time... it’s heavier."

"Why?"

"Because tonight, for the first time, I actually believe we’ll make it."

"Me too. Goodnight, idiot."

"Goodnight, love."

(a typing bubble flickers... disappears... then appears again)

"I miss you."

(a typing bubble flickers... disappears... then appears again)

"I miss you."

(the screen shows the contact name: ā€œAarav ā¤ļøā€ and the chat background — a photo of two men holding hands, silhouettes against a beach sunset.)

Rohan smiled faintly, kissed Aarav’s profile picture, and went to sleep.
